How to conduct a body composition self assessment and set personal weight loss goals

What if I tell you that the word "Weight Loss" is actually misleading if you are trying to lose some weight.


The word seems to suggest that how much we weigh correlate to our health condition and how we look.

This had produce indicators like the Body Mass Index (BMI).

The indicator determines our risk of health implication base on our weight.

This indicator is unreliable for certain groups of people.

For example, a bodybuilder can weigh as heavy as a person that is considered to be obese with the same BMI reading.

Yet the bodybuilder is not at risk to any form of health implication, while the other does.

Not to mention they also look good and feel good about it.

As a result, this had lead many people to adopt the wrong strategy to reduce their weight that compromises their health.

That includes me as well many years back when I was totally ignorant about it.

Right now armed with the knowledge as a certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist I see it is important for me to address this problem.

What matters to our health is our Body Composition.

Hi this is James, I love MMA combat sport and a fitness enthusiast. Certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist by National Council on Strenght & Fitness (NCSF).

I used to be out of shape, stress at work, and eat unhealthily. This all change when I was told that I had high cholesterol by my doctor. I decided to make a small change. Start by working out on myself, eat healthily, and be active in a sport that I love, that is MMA combat sport. I believe our mental and physical well being lay an important foundation to achieve any form of success in life.
