Sarafian Salleh is a passionate researcher of local history and has, since 1985, spent most of his spare time studying and researching the history of the Malay world. His passion intensified when he began constructing his family tree, most of whom are of Bugis descent. His knowledge and authority on the subject have led to him being honorifically called Tuah Bugis in social media. Since 2001, Sarafian has been photographing and documenting various Malay holy sites and cemeteries throughout Singapore and has accumulated a great number of photographs and material of its historical interest. He began to organize heritage walks since 2013 till today and has curated for the Bugis Exhibition organized by the Malay Heritage Centre in 2017. He gives public lectures on his Engineering subjects as well as histories about the Bugis and its heritages. He will be launching his book detailing accounts of early Bugis navigators & settlers in Singapore in 2023. Sarafian Salleh majors in Mechanical Engineering from Queensland University of Technology and manages his own consulting firm Diagnoveritas Pte Ltd for 20 years.
Sarafian Salleh is a licensed tour guide (STB 5434) and actively guides Heritage Tours for schools, local and foreign universities, foreign delegates, societies and government organizations on our local history and heritage.
